We are dissuaded by thoughts and other stimuli from being present with the kind of clarity described in Zazen, wherein the clear mind is like the surface of a mirror, reflecting all that goes before it without itself being disturbed. There are continual agitations and seductions that generate turbulence and pull us away from clarity and equanimity. We seek what we already have.
